On the 17th May, Twentieth Century Fox announced the cancellation of one of the networks latest series, Dark Angel.  The series chronicles the adventures of a young woman named Max, who escaped from a secret Government facility ten years ago, and has been running ever since.  But as she broke out, there was a terrorist attack involving an electro-magnetic pulse which basically turned all the 1’s and 0’s in the banks into 0’s, causing the world to slide into a depression from which it will never recover.  The facility she escaped from, Project Manticore, was developing super soldiers by experimenting with genetic splicing and mixing animal DNA with that of human DNA.  Max was part of the X series, more precisely, the X5’s.  Every transgenic Manticore created was branded with a barcode on the back of their neck as identification.

After teaming up with a man named Logan Cale, a man who also goes by the name of Eyes Only, who is determined to do something about the mess the world is in, she managed to track down her fellow X5’s who escaped.  However, in an attempt to end the hunt, Max was captured while destroying Manticore’s DNA lab.  Luckily, with the aid of a fellow X5, Alec, and one of the mutant ‘failures’ named Joshua, Max escaped and also eliminated the Manticore threat once and for all.

But despite being a hit for the network, Dark Angel was officially cancelled, leaving unanswered questions especially from the feature length season finale which was directed by King Of The World Cameron.  So what can you do to help save this series from extinction?  Stop Dark Angel from being another Fox cast off!  I have created a petition for saving the show, as has many other fans!  Write off to people in a position to make a difference at Fox, and flood the offices with barcodes taken from anything at all.  Show them that Dark Angel has a loyal fanbase!

Replacing Dark Angel will be Joss Whedon’s Firefly.  While I admire Joss’ work, and eagerly await Firefly, I would much rather have Dark Angel.  With the loss of The X Files, Fox is taking a huge gamble by getting rid of Dark Angel as there is a chance Firefly could flop, whereas DA already has a fanbase.  It would be much more sensible for them to keep DA on our screens!

Snail Mail

You can contact the suits at Fox by writing to these addresses.  I urge as many people as possible to write off sending as many barcodes collected from packets, labels, etc.  Show them that Dark Angel still has an audience and we are as loyal to the show as Roswell’s audience was to it.  Roswell was cancelled several times, and was saved by fan intervention.  Roswell fans sent empty bottles of Tabasco (a trademark of Roswell) to The WB, and then to UPN.  Snail Mail is generally viewed upon more highly than E Mail.

Snail Mail Advice:

·          Hand written letters seem far more personal, therefore I would recommend hand written letters rather than typed copies.

·          Tell them what got you hooked on the show – why you find it such a good series and why they should continue to broadcast it.

·          Be as polite as possible – the wrong impression could lead the suits to ignore the campaign.

·          Suggest that if a third series is impossible then ask that a tele-movie is commissioned to answer the cliff-hanger.
